2018

 Launching of the Philippine Buffalo breed

The Philippine Buffalo breed or “Pinoy Buffalo” was formally launched in 2018. It is a product of crossbreeding and successive backcrossing over four generations, which marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the DA-PCC’s genetic improvement program.

Launching of School-on-the-Air on Dairy Buffalo Production

A learning platform called School-on-the-Air (SoA) on Dairy Buffalo Production was launched to further enhance the knowledge and skills of carabao raisers in Iloilo. It is a pilot activity of DA-PCC hosted by its regional center based in West Visayas State University. The SoA, with 500 farmer-enrollees, covers different lessons under Feeding Management, Health Management, Breeding Management, Carabao Enterprise, and Technology Adoption.

1st Livestock Technology Expo

Exemplars of good practices and technologies on dairy, swine, poultry, and waste management were presented and aptly discussed during the 1st Livestock Technology Expo held last October 7-10 at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City.

With the theme “Masaganang Paghahayupan sa Teknolohiyang Maaasahan”, the exposition was conducted simultaneously with two other events: the 4th National Carabao Conference and the 4th Bohol Milk Festival.

Carabao’s milk as part of the national feeding program

Locally produced fresh milk, which includes carabao’s milk, is part of the diet in a national feeding program for undernourished children under the Republic Act 11037 or “Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act” signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last June 2018. A section of the law indicated that milk-based food products should be included in fortified meals.

National Research Council of the Philippines Outstanding Institution Award

The DA-PCC received the “2018 Outstanding Institution Award” in recognition of its significant institutional accomplishments in science, research capacity-building, contributions to the nation and groundbreaking researches consistently developed for the benefit of the carabao industry’s and value-chain stakeholders, foremost of which are the smallholder farmers through noteworthy contributions to improved milk and meat production, livelihoods, income, and nutrition.

 Launching of Carabao-based Business Improvement Network (CBIN) project

The Carabao-based Business Improvement Network (CBIN) popularized as ALAB (Accelerating Livelihood and Assets Buildup)-Karbawan is a locally-funded project launched in October thru the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform headed by Senator Cynthia Villar. It aims to establish a robust carabao-based enterprise in identified provinces through herd build-up of genetically improved dairy carabaos, provision of processing equipment and supplies, establishment of market outlets, and continuous provision of capacity building activities and support services.

ALS – Education and Skills Training on Dairy Buffalo Production

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ubay recently launched the country’s first ever Alternative Learning System – Basic Education and Skills Training (ALS-BEST) on Dairy Buffalo Production.

The municipality of Ubay, being the only LGU proponent of the program, selected the Dairy Buffalo Production as the skills training to be married with the system. This was after the result of series of consultation-workshops with different stakeholders in the town.

Unveiling of DA-PCC’s Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM)


The DA-PCC’s Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) office started its full operation in 2019 following the unveiling of IP-TBM marker last March 27, coinciding with DA-PCC’s 26th Anniversary.

The said initiative is under the project aimed towards the establishment of IP-TBM in DA-PCC. It is a joint partnership between DA-PCC and the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD).
