2014

Launching of the Carabao Development Program Strategic Shift

The Carabao Development Program Strategic Shift focuses on creating favorable impacts on rural communities through Intensified Research-Based Enterprise Build-Up (iREB). The major focus is on organized and wide-scale genetic improvement program, systematic extension and technology delivery, and creation of favorable environment for enterprise development.

Launching of PCC’s R4D Agenda

Tagged as R4D (Research for Development), the new perspective calls for the conduct of researches with emphasis on development, i.e., those that are problem-driven with outputs that are of practical significance or application by the carabao industry stakeholders.

Record-Setting Compliance to MARC

The PCC was compliant to its monthly accomplishment report card (MARC) by way of collectively engaging in Result-Based Performance Management System (RBPMS) demonstrating a record achievement of 109%.

Launching of Dairy Buffalo Multiplier Farm (DBMF)

The PCC initiated the DBMF in partnership with private individuals in Leyte and Tarlac to improve the efficiency in multiplying good quality genetics and to establish a viable commercial buffalo-based dairy farm.

New Leadership

On June 24, Dr. Arnel N. Del Barrio was appointed as the new Executive Director of PCC after the mandatory retirement of Dr. Libertado C. Cruz who served the agency for 21 years.

2015

Inauguration of Livestock Innovations and Biotechnology (LIB) Complex

Funded by the Philippine Government and the United States (through the PL480 Program) with support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the LIB complex was inaugurated on March 27, 2015 and serves as PCC’s main facility in conducting meaningful R&D activities that make use of livestock biotechnologies and other innovations. It houses the laboratories and offices in Animal Genetic Resources Cryobank, Reproductive Biotechnology and Physiology, and Animal Health and Biosafety. It also houses the offices of the DA-Livestock Biotechnology Center, Research and Development Division, and Knowledge Management Division.

Launching of “Dairy Box”

On July 31, 2015, the PCC launched “Dairy Box”, a co-operative-led business model, with its first products outlet in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija hosted and managed by the Catalanacan Multipurpose Cooperative (CAMPC).

Pilot Dairy Commodity Cluster Model Project

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) transferred Php10 million-worth of starter kit training fund to PCC at Ubay Stock Farm for the procurement of native carabaos and provision of technical assistance to some 600 farmer-beneficiaries in six municipalities in Bohol.

Hosting of International Training on Reproductive Biotechnology

Co-organized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) and Taiwan’s Food and Fertilizer Technology Center (FFTC), the PCC hosted and facilitated this international learning event from July 13-22, 2015, which involved 15 participants from Taiwan, Thailand, Pakistan, Vietnam, Ecuador, Indonesia, and Philippines.

Launching of project on “Building Capacity and Strengthening Partnerships for Carabao Devcelopment Program”

This is a project funded by PCC and facilitated by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), with major activities that focus on carabao value chains and knowledge management.

First National Carabao Conference

The PCC organized and successfully held the inaugural National Carabao Conference (NCC) on December 2-4, 2015 with the theme “Celebrating Partnerships in Championing the Carabao Development Program.” The NCC is envisioned to be an annual activity of PCC as part of its continuing initiatives to promote and enhance the development of the Philippine carabao industry and contribute to the overall efforts of alleviating poverty, improving human nutrition, enhancing equitable income distribution, and boosting people empowerment.
