Total Carabao Inventory The total carabao inventory was estimated at 2.54 million heads as of July 1, 2026. This represents a 3.10% decline from the previous year’s same-period count of 2.62 million heads, equivalent to a decrease of approximately 78,810 heads. About 99.3 percent of the country’s carabao population came from smallhold farms, while 0.5 percent and 0.2 percent were from semi-commercial and commercial farms, respectively. (as of July 1, 2026)

Genetically Improved Calves
One of the most notable accomplishments of the DA-PCC was the production of 16,918 genetically improved calves as of June 2026, achieved through artificial insemination (AI), Bull Entrustment Program (BEP), private bulls, and institutional herds. These efforts contribute to the increasing availability of high-quality buffalo genetics for milk and meat production that support sustainable livelihoods.

The total volume of buffalo-derived products traded reached an impressive 7.8 million kilograms, comprising 3,900,563.08 Liters of milk, 1,464,107.45 kgs of meat, and 2,471,440.00 kgs of manure. This underscores the growing productivity and profitability of carabao-based enterprises, further driving economic gains for carapreneurs. (As of June 2026)
